App privacy policy
How BinMate uses your information, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Updated 12 September 2026 · Applies to the current BinMate iPhone and Android apps.
No account needed. We use your property details to find your bin collections, purchase information to provide Pro, and basic app activity to understand what works well. With your permission, we also share limited activity with Meta to measure and improve our ads. Your home and collection details are not included in those advertising events.
Earlier iOS and Android versions may use different services. Read the previous app privacy notice if you use an earlier version. Visiting this website is covered by our separate website privacy policy.
1. Who is responsible
BinMate is operated by Anas Hafidi, responsible for the personal information described here. For support or privacy enquiries, email contact@binmate.co.uk.
2. Information we use
Your home and collections
We use your postcode, selected address and property reference to find and refresh your collection schedule. Our collection service keeps address and collection records to provide this service. Your phone also saves your home, schedule, reminder choices, completed collections, appearance and widget preferences. Your phone’s backup settings may include this information. You do not need to provide your name or email address, or allow access to your phone’s location, to find collections.
Pro purchases
We use purchase and subscription history, transaction details and an app identifier to check Pro access, restore purchases and understand subscription activity. Access checks also happen when you use Free. Apple or Google Play handles payment; BinMate does not receive your payment card number.
Basic app activity
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how BinMate is used and improve it. This includes when the app is opened, which screens are viewed, whether address setup or a schedule look-up succeeds or fails, whether reminders and widgets are set up, and attempts to purchase or restore Pro and their outcomes. Information includes event times, app version, device and operating system details, approximate location derived from your internet address, and randomly generated identifiers that recognise the same app installation and visit. These records are not attached to your name or email address, but can link activity from the same installation over time.
We do not send Google your postcode, address, property reference, collection dates or reminder contents. The app allows only a fixed, limited list of details to be attached to these records. We do not record your screen or use this activity for targeted advertising.
Advertising measurement
On iPhone, Apple and RevenueCat help us understand whether an App Store ad led to an installation and subscription. This Apple advertising information does not include your home address or collection details, and has no Android equivalent in BinMate.
If you turn sharing on in BinMate, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) receives app installation and opening activity, device identifiers, and related app, device and connection information. On iPhone this also requires allowing tracking when your iPhone asks. On Android there is no separate system prompt, so the choice you make in BinMate is the only permission involved. The device identifiers are your phone’s advertising identifier — Apple’s Advertising Identifier or the Google Advertising ID — and an identifier the Meta software creates for this installation. RevenueCat also sends eligible trial starts, purchases, trial conversions and subscription renewals, including their value and currency, to Meta. Meta can match this information with information it holds to measure and improve our advertising. We do not send Meta your postcode, selected address, property reference or bin schedule as part of these events.
Sharing is off until you choose it. Until then the Meta software is not started, and it does not create or store an identifier on your phone.
Crash and performance information
Firebase Crashlytics helps us find crashes and errors. Reports may include technical error details, app and device information, and recent app activity needed to understand a fault. We do not intentionally attach your name, email address or home details to these reports.
Service information and support
Our service providers receive connection information, such as your internet address (IP address), request times and details of service requests. Service records may include the property details used to find collections. If you contact us, we receive your email address, message and anything you choose to attach. Please only send information needed to help with your enquiry.
3. Why we use it
- Provide BinMate: find collections, save your choices, provide reminders and verify Pro access. Our legal basis is performance of our agreement with you.
- Maintain and improve the service: prevent misuse, investigate problems and understand app and subscription activity. We rely on our legitimate interests in a useful, reliable service, balanced against your rights. Where the law requires consent, that requirement applies separately; this notice does not provide consent on your behalf.
- Measure and improve our Meta ads: we rely on your consent for the optional Meta sharing described above. Apple ad attribution helps us understand our marketing results; any separate consent requirement under applicable law still applies.
- Respond to you: help with support enquiries and privacy requests, based on our legitimate interest in helping users or our legal obligations.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Who receives information
- Address-data providers, councils and their collection services: receive the postcode or property details needed to find your address and collections.
- Hosting and service providers: process collection and connection information to operate and protect BinMate.
- Apple, Google Play and RevenueCat: handle payments, purchase verification, Pro access, subscription reporting and Apple ad attribution. RevenueCat also forwards eligible subscription events to Meta when sharing is allowed. We do not send your home or reminder details to RevenueCat. Read Apple’s privacy information and RevenueCat’s privacy information.
- Google: processes the basic app activity and crash information described above through Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. Read Firebase privacy information and Google’s privacy policy.
- Meta: receives the optional advertising information described above. Read Meta’s privacy policy.
- Email providers: process the messages you send us.
We may also share information when required by law or necessary to protect legal rights.
5. Reminders and widgets
You choose whether to allow notifications and turn reminders on. You can change these choices at any time. If you choose to display your address on a widget, anyone who can see your home screen may be able to read it.
6. How long information is kept
- Information on your phone: remains while saved in the app. Changing your home replaces the selected home. Deleting the app removes its device data; offloading may retain it. Phone backups are managed separately.
- Address and collection records: currently have no fixed automatic deletion period. They remain until replaced or removed during service maintenance or in response to an applicable erasure request.
- Purchase records: support Pro access, restoration and subscription reporting. Some records may also be needed to resolve transactions or meet legal obligations.
- App activity and crash reports: are retained under Google’s Firebase retention settings for the relevant product. We have not yet confirmed a fixed deletion period for these records. Contact us about a particular record or an erasure request.
- Advertising and diagnostic records: retention depends on our providers’ settings and their purposes. We have not confirmed a fixed deletion period. Turning sharing off does not delete information already sent; contact us for an applicable erasure request.
- Service records and support messages: retention depends on the providers’ settings and the need to investigate faults, resolve enquiries or meet legal obligations.
Deleting BinMate does not automatically delete information held by us or our providers, or cancel a subscription. Contact us for requests concerning that information. Public address and council records may exist independently of BinMate.
7. Your choices and rights
You can change your saved home, turn reminders off, revoke notification permission, hide your address on a widget, remove widgets or delete the app. Manage or cancel Pro through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
For Meta sharing, open BinMate Settings → Advertising to change your choice. Sharing is off by default. On iPhone you can also revoke tracking permission in your iPhone’s Settings. On Android the BinMate choice is the only permission involved, so turning it off there stops the sharing. A change stops new app events from being requested and updates subscription matching information when the app can connect. Permission changes made outside BinMate are checked when you return to it. This control does not switch off essential purchase verification, Apple ad attribution, basic app analytics or crash reporting.
Subject to applicable law, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests, including app-usage analysis. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact us to discuss or exercise these rights.
Tell us what you need and which app version you use. We may ask for the minimum information needed to locate a record and verify your request. Please do not send passwords or identity documents unless we explain why they are necessary. We normally respond within one month and will explain any lawful extension.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data-protection authority.
8. Protecting your information
We use encrypted connections to protect information in transit. Your phone’s security settings also help protect saved information. No service can guarantee complete security. Our collection service is hosted in the UK. Google processes app activity and crash information on servers that may be located outside the UK and EU, including in the United States, and other providers may also process information elsewhere. Where a restricted international transfer is required, applicable law requires appropriate safeguards. Contact us for details relevant to your information.
9. Children
BinMate is a household utility and is not specifically directed at children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information that should be removed.
10. Changes to this notice
We update this notice when our practices change and explain material changes where required. Reading this notice or continuing to use BinMate is not a substitute for consent where consent is required.
